The East Asia Library, University of Washington have partnered with the National Central Library of Taiwan to establish the first-ever Taiwan Chinese Studies Resource Center (TCSRC, renamed Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies, TRCCS) as part of its permanent collections.
The Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies will be the platform for Taiwan to promote and share both Taiwan and China studies with the faculty, scholars and students of the university.
The National Central Library of Taiwan will donate books to Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies. The newly cataloged TRCCS books are shelved on the 2M floor in East Asia Library. All materials received for Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies will have electronic e-book plate attached to the records. The National Central Library of Taiwan will also provide access to its Center for Chinese Studies digital resources.
On June 11, 2015, UW East Asia Library held a donor reception to express our deep appreciation to the donors whose generous support has made possible the Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies. We had donors from the Seattle community, as well as from Taiwan. There several donors came all the way from Taiwan to attend this celebration. Dr. Hsue-chung Lee and family were among these donors. It was a very successful event. We enjoyed touching stories from donors about their pation for prmoting friendship between UW and Taiwan.
Also during this event, East Asia Library installed an excellent exhibition about the oral history project, "History through Memories and Stories" which intends to document the history and life of Chinese American immigrants in the Greater Seattle area. The project is cu rrently focuing on the Taiwanese community.
