Citation Styles & Tools

Citing Your Sources in APA

You will use APA style to cite sources, annotate your bibliography and complete your Literature Review. Remember to always double-check your formatting, even if you are using an automatic generator (like Zotero).

Example citation in APA style:

Journal: Author, A.A. & Author, B.B. (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume number, Page Range. Retreived from http://www.journalhomepage.com/full/url/

Book: AuthorLastname, F.I. (Date). Book title. Location: Publisher.

Web Page: AuthorLastname, F. I. (Date of Publication). Web article title (if applicable) [Description of Form]. Title of Wb Site. Retrieved date, from                   http://website.com

For more examples of citations, such as a book with two authors, book chapter, magazine articles, and online vs print formats, visit the APA Style Guide.

Use a Citation Manager

Zotero is a software tool that can help you collect, manage, cite and share your citations and sources. Zotero works with word processing programs to automatically format your citations in APA. It comes in the form of a browser extension or software that lives on your desktop.

  • Zotero Quick Start Guide provides robust documentation including short how-to videos and user-driven message boards.
