Searching for Books

Use the library catalog to find out what books and other whole items (journal and newspaper subscriptions, DVDs, documents, etc.) a library or library system owns. UW Libraries Search, the default catalog at UW, actually searches the books, periodicals, and government publications in catalogs from Summit Libraries, including the UW Libraries. Books not available at the UW Libraries may still be available from a Summit Library, or through Interlibrary Loan.

Using UW Libraries Search for Finding Books on Careers

Tips for searching the UW Libraries Search box for Books on Careers, Job Hunting, Working Abroad, etc:

  • Try a keyword search and add these phrases: Vocational Guidance, Job Hunting, Cover Letters, etc.
  • Try these subject headings: Career Development, Professions, Job Hunting, Occupations or any located in the box to the left.
  • Use the Advanced Search to limit your search to words in the title or subject, to items at a specific UW library, or by other criteria.
  • Refine your search by using the limits (the links along the left of your search results) to narrow the scope of your search.
