Trade Journals

Film trade journals are useful for obtaining industry and popular media information about the movies.  The UW Libraries has a strong collection of this type of resource, dating back to the earliest days of motion pictures, up through the present.  One new database, Entertainment Industry Magazine Archvie (linked below) is a treasure trove of fully searchable trade publications, including Variety (1905-2000).

Contains fulltext, searchable content from over two dozen trade magazines, indusry newspapers and other essential publications covering the film industry from the late 19th century to 2000.

Film Trade Journals  on microfilm

Includes some titles that are not found in electronic databases. 

Encyclopedias provide overviews
