ProQuest RefWorks: Getting Started

RefWorks is a web-based citation management program paid for by the UW Libraries. Use RefWorks to organize your research, create bibliographies, insert citations as you write, and import and search PDFs.

Access RefWorks

Access RefWorks by clicking on the logo above, or bookmark it on your browser's toolbar for quick access.

Create an account and log into RefWorks with your UW email!

Create an Account

New users must first create an account in order to begin using RefWorks

When you come to the login screen, click Create Account (Note: a UW Net ID is required)

  1. Click on Create account (*Note: Logging in with institution's credentials will not work)
  2. Enter your UW email address in the E-mail Address field
  3. Click through the necessary steps
  4. A confirmation email will be sent to you. Click on the link in the email, and begin using RefWorks

The old RefWorks (RefWorks Legacy) is still currently active and you can use both accounts simultaneously. When exporting citations, you will be given an option of the two RefWorks to choose from. We recommend that you begin using New RefWorks.

There will be a hard migration in the coming months which will disable use of RefWorks Legacy. At this time, all of your old citations should be imported into your new account automatically.

Off-Campus Access

Accessing RefWorks or Write-n-Cite from off-campus requires the current
UW group code [UW restricted]

(unless your account is linked to your UW NetID)
