a. Chronological
Current works are emphasized. Works of historical importance may be acquired selectively, but are mostly the domain of the History of Science selector.
b. Geographical
Works on the flora, fauna, and natural history of the Pacific Northwest are emphasized; works for other geographical areas of interest to departmental researchers are acquired selectively.
c. Language
Emphasis is on English language materials. Other languages are acquired selectively.
d. Format
Print and electronic books and journals are emphasized. Other formats, such as videos, may be acquired selectively.
e. Exclusions
Most textbooks are excluded. Reprints are excluded.
Most agricultural materials are also excluded. Washington State University collects extensively in these fields and those resources can be obtained through Interlibrary Loan.
