This is a guide to the Tacoma Community History Projects housed in the UW Tacoma Library.  This guide includes several ways to find projects:

Since 1991, students enrolled in Professor Mike Honey’s “Doing Community History” class have been collecting oral histories of local residents and gathering historical research in Community History Projects.

Interviews are transcribed and edited for user accessibility, but the original audio interview is often included.  Projects can be checked out at the UW Tacoma Library Circulation Desk. The projects are Library Use Only.

Accessing the Collection

  • All projects can be checked out at the circulation desk.  For faster retrieval, please have the call number for your project of interest written down.
  • For visitors not affiliated with the UW: the Libary will take a valid ID, such as a driver's license, as collatoral.
  • Checked out projects are due at the circulation desk when library closes on that day.
  • Written interviews are transcribed and edited.  Most projects also include the original recordings from the interview.
  • If you have questions about using the Tacoma Community History Projects, please contact Erika Bailey.
