Reference sources (encyclopedias, handbooks, topic overviews) are a good place to find background information on your topic. Many reference entries also have reading lists that can help to lead you to additional resources on your topic.
Note: reference sources are generally not appropriate to cite in your paper. These sources are intended to give you a broad overview, help you develop subject-appropriate terminology, and spark your creativity as you begin to formulate a research question.

Land Acknowledgment: The University of Washington Bothell & Cascadia College Campus Library occupies Land that has been inhabited by Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial. Specifically, this campus is located on Sammamish Land from which settler colonists forcibly removed Coast Salish Peoples to reservations in the mid-19th century. Today, descendants of the Sammamish are members of several Coast Salish communities.
