Brief Overviews & Biographies

The biographical sketches of key figures in the Pernoud & Clin book are great. Below are just a few more brief biographies and overviews. For other online collections of encyclopedias see Gale Virtual Reference and Oxford Reference Online

Secondary Sources

These are just a selection of articles and books (some in print, some online) that provide scholarly analysis of the events, people & issues of the time. Use the databases linked under the Finding Additional Secondary Sources tab to identify other articles and books that may be useful.

Imagined Joan

The following are literary, theatrical and cinematic re-imaginings of the story of Joan of Arc. Some are available at the UW Libraries, others can be requested via Summit.

Primary Sources

Primary sources for the medieval period are limited both in range and number. The trial of Joan of Arc produced a large number of texts and trial documents, many of which have been translated into English. The sources listed here are mostly English language translations that supplement the excerpts included in Pernoud & Clin book. Some material is not held at the UW but will need to be requested via our Summit partner libraries.
