FAQ

Commonly asked questions from Health Sciences Library users.

How do I create a URL that forces a user to log into the proxy service?

Proxied URLs are useful for sharing links with current UW affiliates who may want to access the resources from off campus.  These proxied URLs provide a means for authentication using a valid UW NetID and password. Creating a link to a course reading in Canvas is one example.

To format a URL that will automatically require the user to log in to the proxy service, prepend https://www.offcampus.lib.washington.edu/login?url= to the actual URL. For example:

https://www.offcampus.lib.washington.edu/login?url=http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/bioe.12084/epdf

The second method is to find the article in the UW Libraries Search, and use the permalink in the catalog record.

Look for this permalink icon found in catalog item record.
