TCORE 114 - Blair - The Gothic: Citation Managers

What is RefWorks?

RefWorks is a powerful online research management, writing, and collaboration tool designed to help researchers at all levels easily gather, organize, store, and share all types of information and instantly generate citations and bibliographies. With RefWorks you can:

  • Create your own database of references
  • Export references from article databases and from the Web
  • Collaborate with others
  • Generate citations and bibliographies
  • Use a Word plug-in to format your citations and bibliography as you write

RefWorks is available to all UW users through the University Libraries' online subscription.

TO GET STARTED, click here for directions.

Note: The RefWorks website is still working on updating to the most recent information, so our website will be undergoing changes. If you have any immediate questions, just Ask Us!

Create an Account

1. Go to RefWorks here

2. Click on Create account
Do NOT click "Login with your institution's credentials" – this will not work

3. Enter your UW email address in the E-mail Address field

4. Click through the necessary steps

5. A confirmation email will be sent to you. Click on the link in the email, and begin using RefWorks

Note:

The old RefWorks (RefWorks Legacy) is still currently active and you can use both accounts simultaneously. When exporting citations, you will be given an option of the two RefWorks to choose from. We recommend that you begin using New RefWorks.

There will be a hard migration in the coming months which will disable use of RefWorks Legacy. At this time, all of your old citations should be imported into your new account automatically.
