Protocols Online - Databases and Journals
Use these resources to find both standard, time-tested methods and brand-new techniques using the latest instrumentation.
Try Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) for peer-reviewed instructional videos.
Try Springer Protocols for step-by-step "recipe" style protocols.
Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE)
o Peer-reviewed scientific video journal of methods and protocols.
o The Libraries subscribe to 4 sections of the Video Journal: JoVE Biology; JoVE Immunology & Infection; JoVE Neuroscience; and JoVE Medicine.
o The Libraries also subscribe to 4 sections of JoVE Science Education: General Laboratory Techniques; Basic Methods in Cellular and Molecular Biology; and Essentials of Biology 1 and 2.
o Includes the full text of Methods in Molecular Biology, Methods in Molecular Medicine, Methods in Biotechnology, Methods in Pharmacology & Toxicology, Neuromethods, The Proteomics Handbook, and more.
o Set up an alert for new protocols on a topic. Save useful protocols in your "favorites".
Methods in Enzymology
o Fields of Biochemistry, Molecular & Cellular Biology, and Genetics.
o Online volumes from 2000-present.
Journal of experimental and laboratory protocols for bench researchers primarily in biology and chemistry
Protocols @ Nature
YouTube site for videos relating to Protocols published in Nature Protocols or shared in the Protocol Exchange, an Open Access resource for detailed methodologies in experimental science.
Journal of methods for life scientists and chemists.
o Life science protocols published in a peer-reviewed, open-access journal.
o Database can be searched by keywords (e.g., "quorum sensing"), organism (e.g., zebrafish), or discipline (e.g., neuroscience).
Biological Procedures Online
Open access, peer-reviewed journal. Publishes articles on techniques and methods in the medical and biological sciences. Emphasis is on multidisciplinary approaches.
Free database of protocols contributed by individual researchers, as well as links to protocols hosted by research labs, biotech companies, & personal web sites. Topics range from histology to yeast genetics to lab animal techniques to cell biology.
Protocol Online also hosts several discipline-specific discussion forums for questions and trouble-shooting.
UW Biomedical Research Resources
o Scientific instruments, research reagents, software, core labs, and specialized services offered by institutions and organizations throughout the five-state WWAMI region.
o Includes UW, Fred Hutch, and Seattle Children's resources.
UW Resources at South Lake Union
o Services, centers, cores, & shared equipment.
