UW Libraries Search with Tips

Tips for Searching:

Once you've run a search, use the "Refine My Results" options on the left side of the page. It's a quick way to drill down to the most useful results without paging through a lot of items you're not really interested in. Options often include:

Resource type (examples: book, article)
Library (example: UW Tacoma)
Creation date
Language
Topic
Classification LCC (Library of Congress call numbers)

Need More Help Finding Books?

Browse the shelves: Literature books are found in the Ps (on the 2nd floor of the Tacoma Library)
Ask your prof to recommend writers or book titles (then look the books/authors up in the Library Catalog)
Find one good book then look it up on Amazon and see what other titles are bought by people buying that book.
Peruse the Bibliography or Reference List of any article or book you already have to find books new to you.
And you can always ask for help at the Reference Desk - (253) 692-4442

Ebook Info

UW subscribes to thousands of ebooks. They can be found in both catalogs to the left.
Right now UW ebooks are not downloadable to a portable device like the Kindle. (They must be read on a computer)

The Oxford English Dictionary
Online version of the 23 volume dictionary which shows the first known usage of a word in English.
Cambridge Histories of Literature
Thirty-seven volumes of literary studies. Titles include Latin American Literature, Spanish Literature, American Literature, English Medieval Literature etc.
Literature Online (LION)
A database with 350,000+ full-text works of poetry, drama and prose in English from the 18th Century to the current day.
