Family Law Research & Practice Guide

Print and online sources for adoption, child custody and support, divorce, and related subjects

Introduction

This research guide provides a basic introduction to select resources available for researching family law topics and exploring family law practice materials, focusing on material available in the Gallagher Law Library. Some resources are freely available on the Internet; others are in UW restricted databases (e.g., BNA, HeinOnline). Some items are available only to people with individual passwords to Bloomberg Law, Lexis, and Westlaw.

For Washington State-specific sources, see the Gallagher guide on Washington State Family Law Resources.

See the Gallagher guide on Other Library Catalogs for information on locating books beyond the Gallagher Law Library. Relevant subject headings used in library catalogs include:

  • Adoption -- Law and legislation -- United States
  • Alimony -- United States
  • Child support -- Law and legislation -- United States
  • Domestic relations -- United States
  • Marital property -- United States
  • Marriage law -- United States
