This guide discusses how to research private sector labor relations law—the law concerning the relations among employees, employers, and unions. It focuses on on the private-sector labor law covered by the National Labor Relations Act and administered by the National Labor Relations Board. (There doesn't have to be a formal union for the NLRA to apply; collective activity by employees may be enough.)
Public sector labor law is governed by different statutes‐e.g., the Federal Labor Relations Act (for federal employees) or comparable state laws. In Washington, see RCW 41.56 (Public Employees' Collective Bargaining) and RCW 41.58 (Public Employment Labor Relations).
