Circulation Student Specialist

Circulation Student Specialist - $16.54 per hour; NO OPEN POSITIONS

Under general direction of the Access Services Manager and Circulation Supervisor, provide equitable, quality, user-centered service to members of a diverse campus community and to the public. Processes incoming Interlibrary Loan requests. Leads the work of and trains Student Assistants. Identifies and works on special projects. Performs the tasks of a Student Assistant.

Duties include:

  • Provide assistance to faculty, staff, and students in person and on the phone with informational and directional questions;
  • Provide complex circulation, study room, Course Reserves, interlibrary and intralibrary loan assistance;
  • Provide users with information about library and institutional policies, services, and procedures;
  • Perform circulation tasks: check books in and out, renew items, place holds, retrieve and process requested library items, and update patron records;
  • Process incoming mail, patron holds, and newspapers;
  • Assist with stacks maintenance: shelving, shifting, shelving special collections, and shelf inventory;
  • Participate in library outreach efforts through library displays and blog posts;
  • Digitize photographic and textual materials for Interlibrary Loan;
  • Assist with training of Student Assistants, develop training materials for Student Assistants, and correct the work of Student Assistants;
  • May lead or coordinate the activities of Student Assistants;
  • Serve as a backup to Access Services staff including work the Circulation Desk alone and conduct searches for missing items;
  • Assist in Materials Processing unit;
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 academic quarters of experience working at a library public service desk
  • Excellent communication and public service skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficiency with integrated library systems
  • Familiarity with MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to track and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Able to maintain patron confidentiality
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull 40 pounds
  • Currently enrolled in at least 6 credits at the University of Washington (UW) or Cascadia College (CC)
  • Proficiency with the Library of Congress Call Number system
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with complex and differing circulation policies for UW Bothell and CC patrons

Hours:

  • Up to 19 ½ hours per week
  • May include some evenings and weekends
