How long do books take to arrive after being requested? Approximate times:
Hold shelf items expire: Most items generally stay on the hold shelf for two weeks, after which your hold will expire and the item will be released back out into the wild for other borrowers to request.
Email notification: You will receive an email when the item arrives at the desk.
If you can't find the book you're looking for, we want to know! Come to the Circulation Desk. We'll help you look for it, and make it missing in the catalog if it's not checked out and not on the shelves. The only way we know to replace missing books is if you let us know they're missing!
The law library buys at least one copy of required texts for law school courses (excluding statutory supplements) and put these items on course reserve for you to check out. More information about how to find reserves, checkout periods, and policies.
You can check out a bunch of useful items from the Circulation Desk to make your life easier. We have chargers, yoga mats, umbrellas, and more! Plus other useful complimentary items such as kleenex, ear plugs, and tylenol, and other first aid supplies. Check here for a complete list.
Sometimes UW Libraries and Summit don't have the books you're looking for. In those situations, fill take a look at the Interlibrary Loan page, to find out how our Resource Sharing Department can help you request a book from an outside library.
You can designate another law student to pick your hold shelf items up for you.
To do so, email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject "Proxy Borrower Request". Explain that you'd like to appoint another student as a borrower for you and give us their name and NetID. Be sure to email us from your UW email address.
