Class description: In recent years, a growing number of critics have challenged whether the long-term US policy of engagement with China still (if it ever did) works. They argue that China has overwhelmingly benefited at the expense of fundamental US interests. Containment of China is one of the alternatives they offer. This task force will address questions about whether engagement is still the best (or even good enough) strategy, about whether another strategy would be more appropriate, whether there should be disaggregated strategies for different issues (such as the South China Sea, Human Rights, Cybersecurity, trade, etc), and make overall recommendations on US China policy for the next administration.
