ca. 1905 NIST Museum Collection
The kilogram/liter was a hollow gold-plated brass sphere having a mass of approximately 1 kg and a volume of approximately 1 cubic decimeter (1 liter). It was thus an object having the properties of a liter of pure water free from air. This was the first concept for the definition of the metric standard of mass.

Industry Standards
The standards in the Engineering Library's collection are primarily engineering-related. For standards related to other subjects, check at the Health Sciences or Built Environments Libraries.
Most standards are held in print at the Engineering Library, located in the Standards Collection on the first floor of the Library. The Engineering Library may not have the most current edition of a standard. To check for other editions of a standard, search the Accuris Standards Store .
