Collection Guidelines: Nordic Studies: Departmental Focus

​The major interests of the core faculty of the Department of Scandinavian Studies lie in the culture of the Nordic countries: Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland. The Scandinavian department is also home to the Baltic Studies program which is served by the Baltic librarian.

The Scandinavian department offers the following degrees, minors, and programs for undergraduate students:

• Danish
• Finnish
• Norwegian
• Swedish
• Scandinavian Area Studies
• Minors:
  • Danish, Estonian, Finnish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, or Swedish
  • Scandinavian Area Studies
  • Baltic Studies
• Honors Program

The Scandinavian department offers the following degrees for graduate students:

• Master of Arts in Scandinavian Studies
• Ph.D. in Scandinavian Studies

Reflecting the interdisciplinary affinities of Scandinavian Studies at UW, the department has adjunct faculty with appointments in departments such as Architecture, Comparative Literature, Germanics, International Studies, and Sociology.
