Scope: The collection supports the UW philosophy programs through the Ph.D. level.
Chronological: Comprehensive, from materials focusing on ancient philosophy through the modern period to contemporary philosophy.
Geographical: The focus is on materials published in North America and Western Europe. Area studies purchases materials focused on and/or published in the Middle East, East Asia, South Asia, and Eastern Europe.
Language: Primary collecting emphasis is on English and English language translations. Works in the vernacular languages of other areas such as Eastern Europe, South and Southeast Asia, China, the Near East are included in the collection through the efforts of the area studies selectors. Materials in French, German, and other Western European languages are acquired as requested.
Format: Books, e-books, journals, e-journals, audio, video, and research databases are included in the collection.
Exclusions: Materials of a purely popular nature, dissertations, manuscripts, and textbooks.
