Collection Guidelines: Oceanography: Oceanography Guide

The OOI is a long-term, NSF-funded program to provide 25-30 years of sustained ocean measurements to study climate variability, ocean circulation and ecosystem dynamics, air-sea exchange, seafloor processes, and plate-scale geodynamics. Measurements on coastal, regional and global scales will be sent from the seafloor via cables to scientists and the public.

The UW cruise to assess the newly-laid cable off the Oregon coast is Visions' 11. The VISIONS'11 expedition will take place aboard the 274-foot R/V Thomas G. Thompson from August 11 - September 1, 2011.
