The UWT Directory is a tool integrated into the UWT website that is maintained by UWT-IT. Each faculty and staff member has their own page that includes contact information, a photo, an "About" section with space for degrees, awards, classes taught, etc.; space to link to recent publications, and the ability to host and link to a PDF of your CV.
Your directory page, which has a uw.edu URL, serves as a tidy summary of your professional identity at the University of Washington Tacoma and has the option to include both your scholarly output and pedagogical achievements and interests.
A benefit of the UWT Directory is that, as faculty or staff at UWT your profile is automatically created by UWT-IT! There are some easy to follow directions (UW NetID required to access) for updating your profile.
You can add new publications to the "Selected Publications" section by pasting in a citation with a hyperlink to the publication. Remember to click "Save" at the bottom of the page.
UW Sites are websites hosted at a uw.edu domain. As a faculty member, you can request shared web hosting or a WordPress site via UW-IT. A website has the potential to host multimedia and visual art, as well as lab notes, blogs, or other materials such as syllabi or open access publications. Having a UW affiliated URL is a great benefit of these tools, but it also means that you cannot use or transfer your site if you leave the university.
In some ways, the sky is the limit with a site! However, with the flexibility and potential comes a greater learning curve, particularly for shared web hosting which requires using a database and content management system (CMS). There is also no automation with these tools, so you will need to manually upload new work regularly.
UW Sites may be of particular interest to researchers who collaborate with students and would like to showcase that work. You can create a lab notebook or blog and assign students logins so that they can post updates and contributions to the site on their own.
UW-IT has detailed instructions and resources for getting started creating your own UW site.
