Resisting Racism: Academic Research

President Ana Mari Cauce launched a Race and Equity Initiative in Spring 2015 with a challenge: that all of us — students, faculty, staff and university leadership — take personal responsibility for addressing our own biases and improving our university culture. And it began with a commitment: that together we would combat the racism and inequities, both individual and institutional, that persist here and throughout our society.

SURJ IS A NATIONAL NETWORK OF GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS ORGANIZING WHITE PEOPLE FOR RACIAL JUSTICE.
Through community organizing, mobilizing and education, SURJ moves white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for justice with passion and accountability.

The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond is a collective of anti-racist community organizers and educators committed to building an anti-racist movement. Founded in 1980 by Ronald Chisom and Jim Dunn, the organization's national office is based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Areas of strength include African American, Chinese, German, Greek, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Jewish, Native American, Polish, Puerto Rican, Slovak, and Ukrainian communities in the United States. There is also substantial documentation on the history of American nativism and ethnic stereotyping."
