What Are Zines?

Zines are self-published periodicals with limited distribution and often focused on a narrowly-defined topic. They began as an underground movement to express opinions that might otherwise be edited or marginalized in mainstream media. In recent years libraries have embraced and promoted them as a tool of free speech.

In Fall 2019, Dr. Danica Miller's course, The American Indian Movement (T EGL 305) will culminate in a zine-making project that will be on display in the Snoqualmie Building of the University of Washington Tacoma Library (see hours).
