AMA Style Guide

Introduction

The AMA Manual of Style: A Guide for Authors and Editors is a guide to the frequently-used reference type followed by JAMA and its related journals. There is also the updated (11th ed) online AMA Manual of Style: A  Guide for Authors and Editors

Formatting in MEDLINE and PubMed is according to Citing Medicine: The NLM Style Guide for Authors, Editors, and Publishers.

Both the AMA and NLM style guides were developed from recommendations contained in the ICMJE Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals (formerly known as the Vancouver style).

For journal title abbreviation identification, visit the NLM Catalog: Journals referenced in the NCBI Databases page and type in the journal name to see the correct journal title abbreviation.

Please note:  Double-check any automatically generated citations for accuracy, such as from RefWorks, EndNote, CINAHL, etc.
