PubMed: My NCBI

Use PubMed's My NCBI feature to:  set up topic alerts, subscribe to electronic tables of contents, store searches, and share collections of citations.

PubMed My NCBI Registration is required.

Important:  Once you create your My NCBI account, follow these steps to configure My NCBI to show UW Online/UW Holdings buttons.  You only need to do this once:

  1. Log in to MyNCBI.
  2. Click on the 'NCBI Site Preferences' link near the top right of the page.
  3. Under 'PubMed Preferences' click on 'Outside Tool'.
  4. Click the radio button to the left of 'University of Washington: Check for full text @ UW'.
  5. Click the Save button at the bottom of the list. You will be returned to the 'MyNCBI - Preferences' page.
  6. Under 'PubMed Preferences' click on 'PubMed Filters & Icons'.
  7. Select the 'LinkOut' radio button.
  8. In the 'Search with Terms' box enter University of Washington
  9. Check 'Filter' and 'Link Icon' boxes to the left of 'University of Washington Health Sciences Library'.

My NCBI: Save Your Search & Set up E-mail Alert

  1. Sign into My NCBI.
  2. Run your search using any terms and limits needed for your topic.
  3. Click 'Save Search.'
  4. A pop-up window will appear that displays your PubMed search in the box labeled 'Name of Search.'
  5. Edit the search name to something short, yet meaningful, e.g. c.diff (100 character maximum).
  6. Click the 'Save' button.
  7. To sign up for automatic email updates of new search results, fill in the 'Save Search Settings' form. Options can be set for update frequency, zero results notification, report format, etc.
  8. Click 'Save.'
  9. Repeat the process for any additional searches, then click on 'Sign Out.'
