National History Day Research @ UW Libraries: Pre-Modern

There are fewer primary sources available for ancient and medieval history so you will find topics that fall into these time periods much more challenging. In addition many of the sources for these earlier periods are in Latin or Greek (or other languages depending on region) rather than in English. Major sources for these periods have usually been transcribed and reprinted (though not necessarily translated into English) in book form so search UW Libraries Search for primary sources for these reprints.

History Day students will need to visit the UW Libraries in order to use those that have a lock icon . Sources without the lock icon are freely available.

Additional primary sources for world history including those freely available on the web can be found on the history guides for ancient and medieval history.
