My colleagues and I at the UW Tacoma Library stand in solidarity with our Black community and other communities of color. We condemn police brutality. We are committed to doing the anti-racist work that needs to be done — including dismantling the ways libraries, universities, and our own institution have been complicit in anti-blackness and institutionalized racism.

Standing along UW President Cauce, I fully support the rights of undocumented students to an education and to live free from the fear of deportation. The threats to immigrants in our community are real, including mass deportations, detentions, and heightened border militarization. I will take actions to create safer, supportive learning environments by being available to listen, empathizing while acknowledging that everything may not turn out the way I hope it does, helping students find resources, and following up after our conversation.
