Dance Scrapbooks

Included here are a few selected scrapbooks with significant dance-related content. In this section only those collections consisting entirely of scrapbooks are listed. Scrapbooks also may be found among collections of personal papers and organizational records. Be sure to check the more detailed finding aids if you are especially interested in locating scrapbooks.

Maxine Cushing Gray scrapbooks

Maxine Cushing Gray was the music critic for Seattle Post-Intelligencer between 1951 and 1953, and arts editor of Argus Seattle from 1954 to 1974. Subsequently, in 1975, she published and edited Northwest Arts, a bi-weekly Seattle publication. In her columns, Gray emphasized the need to recognize the rights of minority groups, and especially the Indians of the Northwest. She was a staunch advocate for performance dance.

Cecila Schultz scrapbooks

Cecilia Augspurger Schultz (1878-1971) was an influential impresario who managed the Moore Theatre from 1935-1949, helping to bring nationally- and world-renowned music and dance artists to Seattle.
