Tips for Searching

  • Try a keyword search and add these phrases: "Zines" "Fanzines" "Self-published literature" "Small press publications" "DIY publications"
    • If you're looking for certain materials or processes, try "risograph" "screen-printing" "collage" "handmade books" "chapbooks"
  • Use Boolean Operators to refine your search. Boolean Operators are special words (like AND, OR, and NOT) that help you combine search terms more precisely:
  • AND → narrows your search (both terms must be present, e.g., zines AND punk)

  • OR → broadens your search (either term can appear, e.g., zines OR activism)

  • NOT → excludes terms (e.g., zines NOT comics)

  • Refine your results using the links along the left of your search results to narrow the scope of your search to:
    • books under Resource Type
    • and related Topics
