Background research

Before you begin to find narrowly focused resources, consider background research in subject encyclopedias to

  • learn the basics of your topic through easy to read overviews
  • refine what you are interested in researching
  • find the terms used by scholars to describe the concepts you want to explore

These resources may not be suitable to use and cite in your paper, but will save you time by quickly grounding you in the fundamentals of your research topic.
