The Coast Salish and Neighboring Languages Guide was created by Tami Hohn, Assistant Teaching Professor for UW American Indian Studies. The Guide provides links to finding aids/collection guides for language and linguistics collections. Peruse the guide by language using the tabs at the left.
Special Collections is open to members of the UW community, visiting scholars, and the general public. You can access our collections both in-person and remotely. Learn more and find links on our appointments page.
Many of the indigenous language collections are restricted to the communities, individuals, or descendants of those represented or to researchers who receive access permission from the linguist or from the advisory committee that helps steward and preserve these cultural assets. The collections contain any combination of documents, recordings, and photographs. Many recordings remain in analog formats such as cassette or open reel tapes. Digitized copies can often be requested. To learn more or request access, contact Special Collections of the Pacific Northwest Curator.
