Comics Culture and the Birth of the webtoon in Korea by Yoon Tae Ho

Yoon's lecture in English Transcript

Reception and Lecture by Yoon Tae Ho

At this highlighted event, UW Libraries will celebrate our unique Manhwa (Korean comic book) colletion of over 15,000 volumes, which were received as a gift from a local donor. This is the biggest and one-of-a-kind collection in North America. As old print publications of graphic novels have not been collected systematicaly, the holdings of this collection are very rare. Also, print publications have been becoming less popular in favor of online publicatins. The UW Libraries Manhwa collection ranges from mid-1980s to early 2000s and holds many famous works by Korean graphic novelists such as Yi Hyon-se, Ho Young-man, Pak Pong-song, Yi Sang-mu, and etc. The collection showcases the renaissance of Korean graphic novels in print. This event will have a reception followed by Yoon Tae Ho's lecture on Korean graphic novels and webtoon.
