Resources for finding images, videos, music, text and more

Why this guide?

Scholarship is enriched by including images, media, and texts. Scholars often build upon the works of others to create something new. Or they may use an image or song to illustrate an idea. This guide can help you find media to use for scholarship or teaching at no cost and perhaps without copyright concerns.

To be clear, works available through these resources have various rights statuses. Some are in the public domain. Some have Creative Commons licenses. Some are protected by copyright. To investigate, look for license terms or copyright information in an item's metadata or a website's terms of use. Finally, a reminder: sometimes even copyright-protected works can be used under the doctrine of fair useThis guide can help you consider whether you use is a fair use.
