Collection Guidelines: Data Services: Locations

Guidelines for collection scope and acquisitions strategies for data services.

UW Libraries Locations

All material collected under this policy is digital and will be made available for use through Libraries online services.

Related Local and Regional Collections

Related University of Washington data sources: There are data sources that are supported by the University of Washington and whose collections should be reviewed when considering external data sources that overlap in coverage.

These sources include but are not exclusive to:

  • IHME (Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation): An independent research center that provides data on global health via the Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx).
  • NWFSRDC (Northwest Federal Statistical Research Data Center): a partnership between the US Census Bureau and UW which makes available to researchers demographic data, economic data, linked business and household data, and public health data. Part of a network of Federal Statistical Research Data Centers around the country.
  • CSSCR (Center for Social Science Computation and Research): A computer resource center supporting social science departments at the University of Washington. They are members of ICPSR and maintain the University’s subscription to their data repository.
  • CSDE (Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology) & UWDC (Data Collaborative): CSDE supports population research and training at the University of Washington by advancing knowledge on migration, health, family change, and other demographic trends. The UWDC provides the infrastructure to harness innovative, but hard-to-access and highly sensitive data for the development of novel, high-quality research and evidence-driven policy making. It includes a computing cluster that provides access to sensitive and/or restricted data in a secure and computationally sophisticated environment.

Cooperative loan arrangements

There are currently no established cooperative loan relationships for electronic datasets.

Cooperative acquisitions programs

Cooperative/collaborative acquisition agreements are encouraged, especially for datasets of broad interest or high cost that are of use to a large population of UW researchers.
