The University of Washington Libraries is planning for cancellations of journals and other subscriptions in response to a shortfall in the 2019-2021 biennial budget and the possibility of a flat or decreased budget in FY22. Journal subscription prices continue to inflate at an average of 6% annually, which is unsustainable in our current budget environment.
In preparation, Librarians and Libraries staff compiled the following list of proposed subscription cancellations based on their knowledge of the discipline and departments, as well as usage and impact metrics, cost, and value; see more details at Principles & Rubric for Subscription Review.
We value and encourage your feedback. We invite the UW community to explore the list and identify titles you consider essential to your teaching or research. Please note that submitting a comment does not guarantee that we will be able to keep the subscription. If a journal you need is canceled, we remain committed to continuing to work with you to provide an alternative path to access the resources you need.
The deadline for comment on this proposed list has passed. We will post the list of final cancellations by the end of October 2021.
