Course Reserves: Physical Reserves Search Tips and Policies

General Information

Course Reserves are course-related required materials made available through the UWB/CC Campus Library. Some required textbooks, films, and other Items owned by the UW Libraries or the instructor are placed "on reserve" for short-term checkout.

Physical Reserves Search Tips

For best results, enter a keyword or title of the material. You can also search by your instructor's last name or course number.

  • intermediate algebra
  • jones
  • bmath 125

If you are searching for a Cascadia course by course, you must enter a "c" before the course abbreviation.

  • cengl&101
  • cphil 240
  • cchem

Please contact library staff at 425.352.5340 if you need assistance.

Physical Reserves Policies

Fines are assessed to encourage prompt return of materials. Fines apply all days and all hours, even if the library is closed, and are assessed after an item is overdue. Fees are levies to defray the costs incurred by the Libraries in billing, processing sanctions, and other activities related to the recovery of material.

  • 1 - 10 hours overdue:   $2.50 per hour
  • At 11 hours overdue:      Item may be billed as lost. Lost item charges for Reserve loans include a $25 overdue fine + $30 item process fee + a replacement cost of $150 or more.

For additional information, please visit the UW Libraries' Fines page.

Loan Periods

  • Reserve book loan periods: 2, 4, 24, and 72 hours.
  • Reserve media loan periods: Generally 4 hours for students; 7 days for instructors if media is on Reserve for their course.
  • You can view due dates through Your Library Account. The due date and time for each Reserve material is provided as a courtesy on the due date slip.

  • No renewals.
  • If Reserve materials are not in high demand, users may check them out again after they are returned to the Campus Library Circulation Desk.

  • If the Campus Library is open, Reserve materials must be returned to the Circulation Desk.

  • If the Campus Library is closed, Reserve materials may be placed in the after-hours book drop located directly outside the library or on Campus Way NE near the Library Annex.

  • Reserve materials must be returned to the Circulation Desk where they were checked out. UWB/CC Reserve materials returned to UW Tacoma or UW Seattle are not checked in until they reach the Campus Library.

Responsibility of Patrons

Library users checking out Reserve materials are responsible for:

  • All Reserve materials checked out on their card.
  • Knowing when Reserve items are due, and returning them on time.
  • Understanding the Libraries' fine and circulation policies.
