Textual Studies and Digital Humanities: Platforms in the Open Internet
This guide supports UW's undergraduate Minor in Textual Studies and Digital Humanities and the Graduate Certificate in Textual and Digital Studies.
Platforms in the Open Internet
Collection Builder. Free and Open Source platform for making a digital exhibit. The template that uses GitHub is particularly easy to use for making a small, hosted exhibit. Has accessibility issues with headings, data visualizations, and mapping.
Quire. Free and Open Source platform for making a digital exhibit.
Timeline js. Free Open Source tool for making a timeline with text and images. The timeline you make can be embedded into any platform that accepts its code, like an Omeka exhibit. Has accessibility issues with keyboard navigation.
Free Wordpress. Very limited, and you end up with a strange URL for your project.
The Text Encoding Initiative (TEI). This isn’t so much a platform but a coding method that you might use in TXTDS classes in order to describe and interpret texts. In order to exhibit your TEI in the form of an online exhibit, you might want to use something like TEI Boilerplate.
