Find Books:

Non-fiction books can provide both an overview and indepth analysis of a topic, event or person. Many books will include footnotes and bibliography that can lead you to other research/writings on the topic.

Use the UW Libraries Search to find books.

  • Type in the keywords that broadly describe your topic linked with the AND connector.  For example:

"african american" AND television
"asian american" AND television  

(latino OR latina OR hispanic) AND television
indians AND television
"native american" AND television
(indian OR "native american") AND television
(gay OR lesbian OR queer) AND television
homosexual* AND television
"Arab countries In mass media"
(disabled OR disability OR disabilities) AND television and portray*


  • Title - search for a specific book by title.  Change the box label from "keyword" to "title" and type in the first few words of the book title. 
    For example: The American Media and the Arabs

  • Author - search for books written by a specific author. Change the box label from "keyword" to "author" and type in the last name followed by the first name of the author. 
    For example: kathleen fearn-banks

 

Write down the library name and call number -- you need this information to locate the book. 

If the book is not in a UW Library, use the Get It link to Request a copy of the book for free.
