African Studies: Newspapers & Magazines

The UW Libraries now subscribes to Africa Confidential, a political, current affairs weekly publication. Access is limited to a one user at a time so be sure to close your browser tab when finished so that others may access. Husky OnNet is required for off-campus access.

Current newspaper databases provide limited access to African publications. Most of the coverage of African issues and events will come from American and European news sources.

This is selected list of African newspapers & magazines available online, in print and in microfilm, at the UW Libraries. Microfilmed newspapers are located in the Newspaper Collection on the ground floor of Suzzallo Library. Readers, printers & scanners are available for you to use. To search for articles published in Kenyan newspapers from 1986 to 2002, try the Kenya Indexing Project -- newspaper articles may need to be requested via Interlibrary Loan.
