Antiracist Education Reform in Brazil

Jonathan Warren  TTH 1:30-3:20pm

The goal of this Task Force will be to develop curriculum and professional development training for teachers in Brazil to improve the implementation of laws 10.639/03 and 11.645/08, which mandate the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and indigenous culture and history in both private and public schools in Brazil.  These laws are historic in that they -- combined with the establishment of a Secretary for the Promotion of Racial Equity (SEPPIR) and affirmation action policies at federal universities -- represent a break from the Brazilian government's long-held position that there is little or no racism in Brazil.
