Odegaard Undergraduate Library houses general and introductory works that support the undergraduate student body and curricula at UW. Odegaard is also where you will find popular fiction, graphic novels, and topical nonfiction books. Because the library is organized by subject, it can be difficult to find queer popular works in the collection. Use this guide for techniques on using the UW Libraries catalog to find works that feature queer characters and themes.
The graphic novel and comic book collection is located on the second floor of Odegaard Library. To find topic-specific graphic novels, try an advanced search in the UW Libraries catalog. Using the subject search, use search terms such as:
On the left hand side, filter your results to items only found at Odegaard Library. Under Item Description, you will see the location of the item: Odegaard Graphic Novels.
The subject descriptors are standardized vocabulary from the Library of Congress. They may not be language that you would use everyday to describe LGBTQ topics, so it can be important to know which descriptors are used in catalogs and databases.
The Good Reads collection contains popular fiction and topical nonfiction. Browse this collection by visiting the second floor of Odegaard Library, or try an advanced search in the UW Libraries catalog. Using the subject search, try search terms such as:
On the lefthand side, you can filter your search by searching for items only at Odegaard. The location of the item will show that it is in the Good Reads collection (2nd floor) or the Odegaard Stacks (3rd floor).
