Research Guides

Tips

  • Present for the audience - Remember this is not a presentation for your advisor.  Audience members are there to learn a little about your research and provide you with feedback on your presentation style. Avoid jargon and use language a general audience will understand.
  • Remember to breathe - This is a low stakes presentation that allows you to practice your public speaking. Pause and give your audience time to digest what you’ve just said.
  • Practice makes perfect - Practice your presentation with the timed slides. It can be tricky getting the timing down but with a little practice, you will do great!
  • Don’t get caught up on the slides - Face the audience and use the slides as your backdrop. What you say is what counts!
