Search Strategies

Start by navigating to the UW Libraries Search

Try combining keywords for topics you are interested in such as:

  • Gender AND Music
  • Equality OR Diversity AND Music

 

Try combining subject headings for topics you are interested in such as:

  • Ethnicity in music
  • Feminism and music
  • Music by black composers 
  • Music by gay composers

 

To refine your search play around with the following filters

  • Resource Type - Print Books, eBooks, articles, etc.
  • Availability - Available in the Library, Available Online, etc.
  • Topic

 

Make use of the bibliographies at the back of the books, often these are a gold mine for further resources as well as keywords to search
