Senator Henry M. Jackson, 1912-1983: Sound Recordings

The portal provides a general overview of key archival, printed, and visual resources in UW Libraries Special Collections that document Senator Jackson's long and distinguished career in public service.

Overview

There are 239 original audio tape recordings in the Henry M. Jackson Papers, all of which have been migrated to digital media for preservation purposes and to make them more readily accessible to researchers. All of the recordings are fully described and listed in the Sound Recordings section of the finding aid to the Henry M. Jackson Papers, and CD use copies are available for consultation in the Reading Room in Special Collections.

In addition, 31 audio clips, listed below, have been created from a selected number of originals, to enable researchers to more readily preview and assess the types of recorded sound documentation that can be found in the Jackson papers.

The following audio clips were selected for their historical significance. They include speeches, interviews, radio press releases, question-and-answer sessions, political events, committee hearings, and political endorsements, as well as Senatorial and Presidential campaign material.
