UWB/CC Campus Library Commitments to Anti-Racism: Communication and Accountability

Most importantly, our library is supportive of and accountable to you, our community. We understand the importance of being transparent and open about our commitments and our actions, so that you can be aware of what we are doing and hold us to our promises of being an anti-racist organization.

Our broad commitments are as follows:

  • Openly speak out against oppression and injustice
  • Strive to build solidarity by creating space for and integrating your feedback
  • Be transparent in our library operations and in upholding these commitments

As we take actions to reach these commitments we will detail them below.

Openly speak out against oppression and injustice

   Summer 2020

  • Wrote and posted a statement expressing the library’s unequivocal commitment to anti-racism and support of the Black Lives Matter movement
  • Laid groundwork for the formation of a team that will respond more swiftly to future situations and continue declaring the library’s support for marginalized communities and opposition to racism and oppression

Strive to build solidarity by creating space for and integrating your feedback

Be transparent in our library operations and in upholding these commitments

   Summer 2020

  • Began building out this library guide detailing specific actions taken for each of our stated commitments

Notice

We need to update and revise this Solidarity Statement, written in 2020, based on learning and activity that Campus Library staff have undertaken since then. We recently engaged in an antiracism audit with an external consultant, and we are working through the recommendations from that audit’s report to develop our priorities and criteria for updating and revising this statement.
