Pressbooks: Using Pressbooks

Compose and Edit

Pressbooks is best suited to text content in its final, edited format (although edits and iterations are always possible). We suggest composing and editing your content using other collaborative authoring and editing tools, such as Google docs, then copying your content into Pressbooks.

Choose a Theme

Pressbooks offers several set “themes” that will shape the look and feel of your book. Choose a theme that best aligns with your content and style. You can always change the theme later, but it is helpful to have something to start with.

Add Content

Experiment with adding text, images, embedded video, and whatever other formats of content you plan to include in your book. This will help you practice the mechanics of Pressbooks so you will know how to proceed when you are ready to add your final materials.
